“It felt so good to laugh together again. That’s how they had spent so much of their time together – laughing. It reminded Elizabeth of the many days and nights they had spent building their love for each other. Through laughter, through the creation of their piece of paradise, through sharing a bed . . . the giddiness increased exponentially. She was forgetting everything about their situation except the fact that he was right here, right next to her. His closeness was intoxicating and her whole body was tingly and warm.
They continued to giggle, staring at each other. Elizabeth’s heart was pounding painfully in her throat. Was he going to kiss her? After literally thousands of years of waiting, she didn’t know if she could wait anymore. He didn’t move forward, didn’t move at all. Just sat there smiling, as she knew she was.”
Thanks for making ME smile, you beautiful person
and speaking of your POETIC SKILLS, Kathryn, here is my NEW FAVORITE QUOTE FROM WILD LAND!!!
“Also,” she said, feigning seriousness and deep thought, “I’ve decided to forgive you.” She awarded him with a dazzling smile that she knew was all Elizabeth. Maybe she wasn’t exactly as he remembered, but she felt that she was more deeply herself than she had been as Elizabeth or Maria alone. A truer version of the eternal fragment in her, the splinter that could communicate with the thought of the creator. If he truly loved her, then he would love her now even more than he had before. It felt as if she had finally found a piece of herself that had been missing, like she was finally the complete whole of two halves. Elizabeth and Maria.
“This is an odd question,” Cameron said, “But what should I call you?”
“Why don’t you call me honey? Like you used to.” She turned to him then, eyes wide and tender. It was a big request, and she knew it.
“I’ll try,” he said.
They smiled at each other as the sun finally breached the horizon and true daylight illuminated their faces, slanting through the trees. Elizabeth felt her cheeks grow warm from the light and from Cameron’s gaze. In her mind, he had never looked so handsome. More than handsome – he was so beautiful it made her ache. She couldn’t believe how much she wanted him.”
This paragraph made me smile and laugh out loud – makes me wish I had written it myself haha I love your writing!
